Report: SeaWorld to upgrade whale habitats

Theme park under fire since release of 'Blackfish'

ORLANDO, Fla. – SeaWorld will spend millions of dollars to expand its park habitats for killer whales, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper reports that expansions will take place at all three SeaWorld parks, including Orlando.  The Journal said the habitat at its San Diego park could double in size.

The makeover will also reportedly include new water current systems that will allow whales to get more exercise.

The total cost will be several hundred million dollars, the paper stated.

SeaWorld has come under fire over keeping whales in captivity since the release of the controversial documentary "Blackfish."
