The inspector found 20 live roaches under a reach-in cooler, near a hand-wash sink in the kitchen and inside a cabinet near a storage shelf. He also found, according to the report, dried rodent droppings throughout the establishment.

There were other pest concerns that were found as well. Small flying insects were spotted in the kitchen, near the storage shelf. They also had to throw out food because it was not edible. The inspector wrote there was a case of plantains stored outside with flies inside.

The inspector came back the next day and there were still about a dozen roaches in the kitchen. He extended the time but when the inspector came back later that day there were still roaches.

After this second visit, the inspector gave the restaurant two days to clean things up. Island Tropics Restaurant was reopened on the third day with zero high priority violations.
