JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's an institution in Springfield: Cotten's Bar-B-Que on Main Street. Manager Johnny Brown has fired up the grill for more than 30 years
"I take care of things try to keep the place clean. I've been here since 1989 that's a long time," says Brown.
Last week Brown was working as usual when the inspector came for a check.
Brown said, "We found roaches that was it."
The inspector found close to 30 dead roaches in the kitchen and nearly 50 under chairs and tables in the dining room.
"The animals come in anywhere from the top, anywhere in this place," says Brown.
All of the roaches were dead and Brown says that's proof their pest control is working. But since this latest inspection he says he's started a daily routine. He takes a flashlight and walks through the restaurant focusing in on the floor.
"I get down under the tables," says Brown.
He's checking for bugs dead or alive. Brown was so confident that the bugs were gone he let us follow him on his inspection.
"This is what I do every morning because she told me she'd be back because she works with me. So I have everything how she want it," says Brown.
Brown says it's not only because the state requires it, he's fixing the problems because it's what his loyal customers deserve and expect.
"It's personal to my customers they come in and greet me and call me by name," says Brown.
The inspector said she'll be back within a couple of months and this time Brown said he'll be ready.
