Study: Florida among worst states for bullying

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida has one of the most pervasive bullying problems in the nation, according to a survey by WalletHub.

With more than 160,000 children missing school every day in the United States out of fear of being bullied, WalletHub conducted an analysis of the best and worst states at controlling bullying.

WalletHub analyzed 42 states and the District of Columbia across nine key metrics, ranging from bullying incident rates online and on school property to the cost of truancy for schools.

Here's how Florida ranked (1=lowest, 21=average):

  • 2nd - in percentage of high school students bullied on school property
  • 3rd - percentage of high school students bullied online
  • 18th - percentage of high school students involved in physical fight at school
  • 14th - percentage of high school students who attempted suicide
  • 16th - percentage of high school students who experienced feeling sad or homeless
