Teen hit by car on Beach Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car Monday afternoon on the Southside. Jacksonville police said he was trying to commit suicide.

Police were called to the crash on Beach Boulevard near Art Museum Drive just before 4 p.m.

They said the teen ran in front of a car heading eastbound on Beach, striking the windshield and flipping over the car.

A witness told Channel 4 he saw the teen hit and stopped to help him to keep other cars from hitting him.

"The guy squeals on his brakes to try to avoid him, and he swerved over and he hit him," Paul Strong said. "The kid did a complete flip."

The teen was taken to UF Health Jacksonville and was expected to survive.
