Third Shredder Day event held

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 4,218 cars came out to EverBank Field Saturday to get their personal documents shredded.

You may recall shred events earlier in the month was shut down because traffic to the location backed up traffic on Normandy Boulevard.

News4Jax spoke to people who had their documents shredded. They all had the same goal: protecting their identity and getting rid of unwanted papers.

"Wanted to do spring cleaning and protect my identity all at the same time. I've had my identity stolen before. I don't want that to happen again," Peggy Thompson said.

Thompson says the process of getting her life back to normal afterwards wasn't easy.

Denise Thomas says she knows someone who also lost their identity.

"It was just really heartbreaking to know everything that had to be done in order to get him to be who he is without trying to use his identity," Thomas said.

Traffic at Saturday's event moved smoothly. Trucks took people's boxes of unwanted documents. The event is a partnership between Channel 4 partnered with Family Foundations, Shred-It and Cintas Document Management to host the Shredder Day events.

"Your credit history could be destroyed. People can take money out on your house. You never know what can happen. Someone can take over your whole financial life," Andy Bacik with Cintas said.

7,129 is the total for all three shredder day events.
