Freeze warning issued on Black Friday

Warning in effect from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Freeze Warning for parts of our area on Friday from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The areas affected by this watch include Nassau, Duval, Hamilton, Suwannee, Columbia, Baker, Union, Bradford, Clay, Gilchrist, Alachua, Putnam and Marion counties.

NWS expects temperatures to reach the lower 30s, mainly west of I-95. The coastal zones will hit lows from 35 to 40 degrees closer to the coast. Three to seven hours of freezing temperatures are expected inland during the Freeze Warning.

Freezing temperatures can harm outdoor plants, pets and those sensitive to cold weather. Areas of frost are possible inland in wind-protected areas.

A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or expected for at least two hours.

The Weather Authority wants to make sure you take the precautionary measures to protect your plants, pipes and pets.
