Victim leads deputies to stolen pickup, burglars

A woman returning to her home on Old Tyme Avenue on Sunday night saw two men leaving her home and getting into a dark-colored pickup truck.

She notified the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, which responded to a burglary in progress on Sunday evening. Responding deputies located the pickup in a vacant lot behind a nearby residence. Deputies quickly determined that the vehicle was stolen.

K-9 deputies searched the area and picked up a tracking scent to the rear of the property, where two men were found. According to the Sheriff's Office, one of the men had keys to the pickup truck and both had items with them that were taken from the victim's home

Joseph William Perkins, 34, and Joshua Lawrence Bogert, 20, were arrested on charges of burglary, grand theft of controlled substances, grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft of credit cards, and possession of a controlled substance.

The two men were booked into the St. Johns County Jail.
