Westside family fearful after car stolen

Family van stolen from driveway by two men

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A family on the Westside of Jacksonville told Channel 4 that they are living in fear after their vehicle was stolen from their driveway Thursday night.

Holly Barber told Channel 4 that it happened after her boyfriend left his keys in the ignition of their family while he cleaned it out.

That's when Barber said her boyfriend was attacked by two men, who mowed him down and got in the van and took off.

"Whoever did this, I hope you are happy because it ain't right to jump on somebody and take their car like that," said Barber.

Barber told Channel 4 that her family had just gotten back from the store and while she was inside with her children, her boyfriend went back to the van to clean it out and get her wallet. In an instant, things went terribly wrong.

"Two guys jumped on him and pushed him on the ground. Dirt got in his eyes because it was raining and when the car took off, he ran off after them," said Barber.

Barber said the keys were still in the ignition because her boyfriend was using the lights and listening to the radio.

Barber said they lost more than just their vehicle when the van was stolen. Barber's daughter's birthday was Friday and she told Channel 4 she had a lot of money in her wallet, which was in the car, planning to buy her daughter's birthday presents.

Anyone with any information on this crime is being asked to call Crime Stoppers, 1-866-845-TIPS.
