Jags WR Allen Hurns up for NFL rookie of the week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns is one of five rookies nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 1 of the NFL season.

Hurns, an undrafted rookie from the University of Miami, started in place of an injured Cecil Shorts III on Sunday in Philadelphia and had 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns on four catches.

Hurns became the first player in NFL history to score two TDs in the first quarter of his NFL debut. He is the second player in NFL history (after Detroit WR Charles Rogers in 2003) to score a touchdown on each of his first two catches.

Hurns was the only rookie to have 100-plus yards receiving in Week 1 and led the NFL in receiving during the preseason with 232 yards and one TD on 14 receptions.

The other players nominated for Rookie of the Week are Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin, Denver Broncos CB Bradley Roby, Miami Dolphins LB Chirs McCain and San Diego Chargers LB Jeremiah Attaochu.

Fans can vote for one of the five players at http://www.nfl.com through Friday at 3 p.m.

The winner will be announced Friday on NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com.
