One killed in Northside hit-and-run crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person has died as a result of a hit-and-run crash on the Northside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Steven Fordham, 31, was exiting I-295 onto N. Main Street southbound when he steered into the path of a black Mercedes, causing the Mercedes to hit his vehicle.

The crash caused Fordham's Ford Explorer to overturn multiple times and land on its right side.

Investigators said the passenger, Joseph Jannelli, 40, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was thrown from the vehicle. He was flown to UF Health Jacksonville where he later died.

Fordham suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes ran away from the scene, leaving the car behind.
