News4Jax brings ice, charging station to residents in need

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – As hundreds of St. Johns County drivers lined up Saturday afternoon to be allowed back onto Anastasia Island to see what Hurricane Matthew had done to their homes, News4Jax's Tarik Minor greeted some of them with 10-pound bags of ice.  The station also provided a charging station set up for people to charge their phones and other devices.

After the Bridge of Lions reopened and traffic was flowing, Minor went to a mobile home park without power, near Mantanzas Inlet, to hand out ice.

It's a small gesture to let the community know that WJXT not only here for you on television and on online, but works within the communities that we have the honor to serve.

We know it's not going to be an easy recovery for many people and we want you to know that we're here for you during and after the storm.

The station is making plans to do a similar outreach with ice and power, but details of time and place were not finalized.
