JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Torrential storms created problems across Jacksonville Friday night.

Heavy rains moved into the area around 7 p.m. Friday and continued until after 11 p.m.

The rains caused flooding on Cassat Avenue near Blanding Boulevard. Traffic was diverted from the area by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office until 11 p.m.

News4Jax also received pictures and video of heavy rain, lightning strikes and flooding from north Jacksonville, northwest Jacksonville, Middleburg, Clay County and areas in Ponte Vedra, as well as Jacksonville Beach.

The Weather Authority's Chief Meteorologist John Gaughan reports 3 to 4 inches of rain fell Friday night on the west side of Jacksonville. The south side of town received the least amount of rain, with about a third of an inch reported.

Gaughan is warning everyone about rapidly changing skies over the weekend, as big storms could turn severe.
