Community rallies behind Middleburg culinary teacher after she lost a decade of work in a storage facility fire

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – A Middleburg High School culinary teacher and small business owner lost thousands of dollars worth of equipment and personal items last week when a fire destroyed her storage facility.

“It unfortunately destroyed everything for my catering business, future home, and family memorabilia,” Sierra Mooney said.

The fire consumed Mooney’s collection of professional catering equipment and supplies she had accumulated over more than a decade of business operations including charcuterie boards, drink dispensers, chafing dishes, food warmers, and decorations used for weddings, baby showers, and graduations, according to a GoFundMe set up for Mooney.

The fundraiser titled “Rebuild Sierra’s Culinary Dreams After the Fire” said Mooney serves as a volleyball coach, mentoring young athletes at both the high school and club levels.

“She will give the shirt off her back, without question, to anyone in need,” Audrey Shaw, the GoFundMe organizer said in a statement seeking community support through the online fundraising campaign.

Community members have come together to support Mooney in the fundraiser. So far, it has raised over $5,000 to help Mooney rebuild her business.

“I am now asking that we as a community, ban together, to show up for her the same way she has selflessly shown up for so many others,” Shaw said in the description for the fundraiser.
