JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Shoppers can now pull up and plug in their electric cars at the St. Johns Town Center.
Chargers for energy-efficient vehicles are being made available as part of an eco-friendly initiative at the popular Southside mall complex.

Two electric car charging stations are on property behind Panera Bread, along Midtown Parkway. Charging a car is free for now, but eventually the Town Center will decide on a fee.
Drivers can leave their vehicles at the charging station while shopping or eating.
Another new transportation feature at the Town Center is its cab service.
"If they ever need a cab, they have easy access right here," said Josh Nudge, of Checker Cab Company. "They can just walk up to any cab stand and get a cab any time they like during the day or the evening."
Nudge believes the cab company will be especially busy on the upcoming Cinco de Mayo holiday.
"Obviously, we want everybody to be safe," Nudge said. "Being in the cab business, that's the majority of our business in the evening, is getting people home safe."
Checker Cab Company has two permanent taxi cab stations at the north end of the mall near Ted's Montana Grill and at the south end of the mall near the parking area for Cantina Laredo. The company has three cabs at each station. If one is not available, anyone seeking a ride can just call the number on the sign and a cab will come pick up that person.
Taxi services are available when the mall opens and lasts until the restaurants close.
