JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The world of nutrition just entered the “Upside Down,” and it has nothing to do with the TV series Stranger Things.
The Trump Administration is changing dietary guidelines for Americans, urging a shift to protein-rich, processed-free eating.
Under new guidance, increased consumption of whole foods, including more meat, is advised, while processed foods and added sugars should be avoided.

The new guidance returns to the food pyramid, previously phased out in 2011, but in a completely reversed format.
Dr. Lisa Sutherland, from Jacksonville University, who also served as chief nutrition advisor to Walmart’s executive team, and helped Kellogg’s navigate nutrition and led the healthier food initiative in collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, joined News4JAX anchor Bruce Hamilton. She said there’s good and bad in the new plan. But much of it goes against evidence, science and research.
