JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ā Did you know that Fatherās Dayš has an interesting history?
The first Fatherās Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. It was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her father, a widower raising six children.
Unlike Motherās Day, which became a commercial holiday in 1908, Fatherās Day took longer to gain widespread recognition. In 1972, it finally became a nationwide holiday in the United States.
