Gate Petroleum Co. president retires

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Herbert H. Peyton announced in a letter to employees that he will retire as president of Gate Petroleum Company as he turns 80 this month.

John Peyton became the next president of the company, effective Tuesday. He returned to the company in October after serving two terms as mayor of Jacksonville. Peyton also worked for the company from 1989 to 2002, serving as division manager for the Florida retail division and later as vice president.

"Herb Peyton has built a strong company through great instinct, courage and determination," John Peyton said. "Now with extraordinary people and great assets, I look forward to building upon the success from the first 50 years."

Gate Petroleum Company has more than 3,000 employees and operates in eight states throughout the southeast.
