FDLE To Learn How Glover, Others Got Confession From Innocent Teen
JACKSONVILLE – A look at detective Michael Glover's personnel file shows a police officer apparently eager to climb the ranks on the police force and become a sergeant.
But Channel 4's Kim Prozzi has learned that the son of Jacksonville Sheriff Nat Glover has stepped down from the homicide division and moving into the computer software division of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
As Glover took the stand last November (pictured, left) during the murder trial of Brenton Butler he denied that he beat a confession out of the 16-year-old accused of robbery and murder.
Glover has worked on the force for 11 years. He began in May of 1989 as a patrol officer and worked his way into the homicide division. The young officer had high hopes of becoming a sergeant.
On his evaluation, his goal was to remain in homicide and be promoted to the rank of sergeant, but apparently his plans took a detour.
"Detective Glover has moved to the laptop office," Jacksonville Sheriffs Office Chief Frank Mackesy (pictured, right) said.
This comes after Glover called for an investigation of his son and two other detectives regarding Butler's interrogation and arrest.
"He's in a high profile position and he's been the target of a lot of accusations lately, and I think it's a smart move to move from this high profile position right now," Mackesy said.
Butler's attorney said that snapshots prove that the 16-year-old was beaten into confession, confessing to a murder he did not commit.
Glover originally got a glowing evaluation regarding the arrest of Butler. The evaluation stated, "he (Detective Glover) called in when he was not on call to assist with a robbery and murder interview. In this case, he obtained a confession when others had not been able to."
But two months later, the story changes.
"I personally regret the arrest of Brenton Butler," Glover (pictured, left) said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is actively investigating Glover to determine what exactly took place during the eight-hour interrogation of Butler.
Channel 4 has learned that Glover was suspended back in 1998 after investigation determined that he and two other detectives allowed an inmate to have sex with his girlfriend in the interrogation room.
