They say he has confessed to shooting and killing 33-year-old Wayne Cox of Waycross in November of 1997. His body was found in a ditch on Bulls Ray highway, south of Pritchard Road.
Acting on a tip, police recently questioned Abercrombie. They said he admitted to shooting Cox, and that two other people helped him do it.
Abercrombie said that he and the two other suspects allegedly took Cox's car to a car wash to have it cleaned, then burned the car.
Abercrombie is expected to face a judge Sept. 5.
