Police have not released the cause of death.

Residents in the Southside neighborhood told Channel 4 that there was a history of domestic abuse between Cotton (pictured, right) and his wife. Channel 4's Hetal Gandhi reported that Cotton has a previous conviction for domestic violence.

"We knew he was violent and on drugs real bad," Yolanda Denton, a member of Linda Cotton's family, said. "We didn't think it would come to this."

After a first appearance in a Duval County courtroom, Cotton is being held without bail.
