Pair Get Life Sentence In Murder Of Christopher Carver

After less than one hour of deliberation, a Brantley County jury found two teenagers guilty of killing a man who had stopped to help them fix their car.

Jordan Chesser and Krystale Krause were convicted of malicious murder, felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The two killed 37-year-old Christopher Carver in June 2002, then dumping his body in rural Glynn County.

Both were sentenced to life in prison on the two murder charges, and five years to be served consecutively for the firearms charge.

"To have the verdict returned that quickly -- I don't think there was any doubt in the jury's mind that they were guilty," prosecutor George Barnhill said. "Ultimately, Chris Carver (the murder victim) was just a good Samaritan. They brought him back into town under a lie, then brutally beat him and shot him in cold blood."

They will be eligible for parole in about 20 years.
