Woman Retried For Husband's Murder
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A second trial is under way for a Jacksonville woman charged with killing her husband.
Shana Barnes was convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband, Greg Barnes. She was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
But an appeals court overturned her conviction and ordered a new trial, ruling the jury instructions on self-defense were confusing.
Barnes claimed it was an act of self-defense, saying Greg Barnes slapped her in the face as she was trying to get away from him.
She said she got her pistol and shot him.
Investigators said the couple was married for 15 years.
