Jaguars 2005 Schedule Set

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The NFL announced its 2005 regular-season schedule Wednesday, and despite pleas from Jacksonville Jaguars majority owner Wayne Weaver, there will be no Monday night game for his team.

Weaver had hoped the Jaguars' 9-7 finish last season -- in addition to Jacksonville hosting Super Bowl XXXIX in February -- would persuade the schedule makers to consider his city Monday night-worthy.

"He thought maybe he could use (a Monday night game) as a marketing tool," said sports director Sam Kouvaris.

The Jaguars will only play in one nationally televised game this season -- an 8:30 p.m. Sunday night game at Alltel Stadium versus the Cincinnati Bengals on ESPN. This is the third year Jacksonville will play host to a Sunday night game on the cable network.

This is the third consecutive season Jacksonville will not play a nationally-televised Monday night game -- long considered a prestigious achievement for teams. The last time Jacksonville played in one was a 28-21 loss to Green Bay Dec. 3, 2001.

The Thursday, Aug. 25, preseason game at home versus Atlanta will also be televised nationally on ESPN.
