JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol and the Union County Sheriff's Office have completed the investigation into the January crash involving a tractor-trailer, a car and a school bus that killed seven children.

The reports have been forwarded to the state attorney's office, which will make a determination as to whether and what charges might be filed against Alvin Wilkerson, the driver of the semi.

The big rig driven by Wilkerson failed to stop for the car and the school bus, which was dropping off children on state Road 212, four miles south of Lake Butler.

The impact of the tractor-trailer pushed the car into a back of the bus and the car burst into flames, killing all seven children in the car and injuring several of the passengers in the bus.

The FHP and the National Transportation Safety Board announced in February that, other than a brief nap, Wilkerson had been awake for 34 hours prior to running into a the car containing the seven children.

A decision on charges against Wilkerson could be made in about two weeks.
