Just before 4 a.m. Saturday, Wilcox was found dead in a home in the 7300 block of Sharbeth Drive, just of Ricker Road on the Westside.

Police said Wilcox and Lockley were arguing outside the home, then when inside. Investigators said Wilcox was shot several times.

Lockley told investigators he shot Wilcox to protect his mother.

"There were certainly some steps that he did not take that a prudent person may have taken in a similar situation to do other things besides take the life of another human being," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Pat Ivey said.

Lockley is scheduled to appear in a first-appearance hearing on the murder charge Thursday morning.

Channel 4's Casey Black is learning more about Lockley and the charges. She'll have a live updates on the local station at 5 p.m.
