Dad Helps ID Casino Robbery Suspects

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police continue to work to solve a casino cruise caper after three people were caught on tape trying to cheat the casino system by stealing.

A nearby shrimp boat owner who was shown the surveillance tape recognized one of the suspected thieves as his son and later turned in what was stolen from a Sun Cruz Casino boat.

Sun Cruz Casino managers caught the thieves on tape as the trio made off with a flat screen TV, a bag of loose coin worth more than $2,500 and a walkie-talkie.

Although the thieves got away, it turned out lady luck was not on their side -- the bag of coins ended up being casino tokens.

According to police reports, when a casino manager got a lucky break when they showed the surveillance tape to a nearby by shrimp boat owner.

Police said when the shrimp boat owner saw the casino boat's surveillance tape he recognized one of the suspects as his son and later turned in the stolen casino tokens to the sheriff's office.

At the time of the crime, the casino boat was being docked and nobody else was onboard.

While gamblers said the Sun Cruz heist was unusual, they said it would not keep them from their hands at the jackpot.

"Dumb, dumb and dumber. They made a movie of it but I guess these boys want to be in their own movie," said Jennifer Gill, who plays on casino boats. "It would not stop me from going on the cruise ships. I love to lose my money the legal way."

Police said they've identified two of the three suspects in the theft. However, no arrests have been made in the incident.
