Force Of Lab Explosion Caught On Tape

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Northside business that was rocked by the massive chemical plant explosion at T2 Laboratories, which is next door, recently released surveillance video recorded at the time of the blast.

T2 Laboratories exploded last week, killing Robert Scott Gallagher, Charles Budds Bolchoz, 48; Karey Renard Henry, 35; and Parrish Lamar Ashley, 36.

A final farewell was held Thursday for Ashley. Family, friends and co-workers said goodbye to the 36-year-old and a funeral service that was held at the Titus Harvest Dome Spectrum Church in East Arlington.

Fourteen other people were hospitalized for chemical exposure or their injuries after the blast.

Thursday afternoon, Channel 4's Adam Landau talked with workers at Wilkinson Steel who were shaken up by the force of last week's blast.

Video from Wilkinson Steel shows workers reacting with fear as windows, doors and walls are blown in from the explosion next door.

"It's like a horror movie," said Rhonda Dunn.

Workers outside Wilkinson Steel were thrown to the ground. Not sure what happened, the workers ran.

Tommy Saavedra told Channel 4 he couldn't believe his eyes.

"I heard the whistle going off and then a big fireball. The explosion went off and that's when it knocked me back, knocked down the partners I was working with," said Saavedra.

More than a week after the blast, Wilkinson Steel is open for business but eight workers are still out dealing with their injuries.

"A lot of it was ears. They had to go to the doctor for their ears. We have one that still has trouble hearing out one ear. It was just like being in a war," said Richard Kurtley.

Tom Stover with Stover Sales, another nearby business, said things are not business as usual. He said generators continue to run his business because there is still no power.
