KINGSLAND, Ga. – Minutes after the Ameris Bank on Highway 40 was robbed, a Kingsland police officer and Camden County deputy stopped the suspected getaway car about to get on Interstate 95, recovered money believed taken in the holdup and arrested the driver.
Kingsland police was notified of the robbery at 3:29 p.m. and stopped a car driven by Tony Bell, 46, of St. Augustine, at 3:31 p.m. on the southbound entrance ramp of I-95. The driver matched the description of the man who robbed the bank and the vehicle matched the description of the car seen leaving the scene.

During the investigation that included agents from the Brunswick field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, police learned that there was a stolen license plate on the vehicle.
"I attribute the successful conclusion of this event to recent training conducted by Kingsland Police at area banks, leading to accurate descriptions of both the vehicle and suspect being given," said Kingsland Police Chief Darryl Griffis. "This training for banking staff helps them through dangerous situations and facilitates their safety."
Bell was charged with robbery and booked into the Camden County Jail.
