Shooting Leaves Man Dead On Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A shooting Monday night on the Westside has left one man dead, according to police.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to the 7000 block of Beekman Lake Drive just after 10 p.m. Police found a man dead of a gunshot wound in the front yard of a home.

According to the police report, the victim's identity was not known.

Sgt. T.K. Waters said the incident began as an altercation outside the house and the shooter and the victim were apparently fighting over a weapon.

A neighbor said the shooting occurred during a robbery, after a man parked in the driveway, got out and pulled a gun.

"He said that somebody tried to rob him -- put a gun to him," Ashton Youmans told Channel 4's Diane Cho. "He had grabbed (the gun) from him. He said somebody else shot him with a shotgun."

Youmans said the shotgun was fired by a third person who was in the house when the altercation began.

Police said there are several witnesses were taken in for questioning, but no one was arrested.
