Jones was set to be an unrestricted free agent in a few weeks, but instead signed what was reported to be a five-year, $17.4 million contract to remain in Jacksonville. That would make him the highest-paid fullback in NFL history.
Jones was originally a second-round pick by the Jaguars in 2004 and has played in 46 games with 27 starts over four seasons.
The former Florida State standout has career rushing totals of 255 carries for 856 yards and nine touchdowns, along with 24 receptions for 178 yards and two touchdowns. He totaled a career-high 151 carries for 575 yards and four touchdowns in 2005.
Hones, 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 254 pounds, has played a major role in the Jaguars' rushing attack and has recorded the two highest totals in franchise history the last two seasons.
The Jaguars ranked first in the NFL in rushing from 2006-07, with a 154.1-yard average per game. The Jaguars led the AFC and ranked second in the NFL in 2007 in rushing with a 149.4 average.
