Review Board Recommends Training For Officer Involved In Shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A police review board in Tuesday recommended further training for an officer who shot a 16-year-old carjacking suspect.

The shooting followed a police chase on Emerson Street on the Southside last October. Investigators said the suspect, Tyrone Taylor, tried to flee on foot, and an officer opened fire.

The gunfire wounded Taylor in the leg. He has since recovered.

Police said Taylor did not have a gun.

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Response to Review Board decided that the officer, Adam Hires, followed departmental guidelines when he opened fire on the teen. Nevertheless, they ordered him to undergo additional training.

In a second case, the board found Nicholas Damone acted according to department guidelines when he shot double-murder suspect Alonzo Jones Jr. in October. Police caught up with Jones in a Northside cemetery and fired when he refused to drop an assault rifle he was carrying.

Jones recovered from his injuries and pleaded guilty last month to killing his girlfriend and her father.
