Teen Accused Of Robbing Ponte Vedra GNC

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A Ponte Vedra Beach teenager was arrested and charged with strong armed robbery and possession of prescription medication without a prescription on Sunday afternoon.

The victim told deputies that the suspect, later identified as 17-year-old Ryan Mickens, entered the GNC store and requested to use the restroom as two other customers were inside shopping.

According to deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, when the two customers left the store, Mickens came out of the restroom and brought a bottle of water to the cash register where he purchased it. After the sale, the suspect told the victim to press the ?No Sale? button on the register and then demanded all of the money while the victim believed he was holding a gun under his shirt, police said.

The victim complied and the suspect fled on foot, police said. The victim then called the sheriff?s office at about 4:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they said they found Mickens in the parking lot. Deputies said they discovered $128 in cash along with 25 Xanax tablets and a GNC plastic bag on the suspect.

Mickens was arrested after being questioned. The victim also positively identified him as the suspect, according to the sheriff's office.

Mickens was taken to the juvenile detention center in St. Johns County.
