Weavers Make Big Donation To Help Protect St. Johns River

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars is writing a big check to help protect the St. Johns River. The Weaver family presented a check for $150,000 to the Riverkeeper. That's in addition to the $300,000 the Riverkeeper raised during a fundraising campaign.

Wayne Weaver and his wife Delores Barr Weaver say they wrote the check because they are concerned about a plan being discussed in Central Florida. Counties there are trying to withdraw millions of gallons a day from the river to meet the demands of their growing population.

All of the money will help the Riverkeeper fund a legal fight to try to prevent that from happening.
