CHICAGO – A Florida woman said she is fulfilling a promise she never thought she'd have to keep by raising several special-needs children that her slain parents had adopted.

During an interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that will air Wednesday, Ashley Markham described her life since the July slayings of her parents, Melanie and Byrd Billings, in their Florida home.

Eight people have been charged in what authorities say was a home-invasion robbery.

Markham told Winfrey that her mother had asked her to make sure, if anything ever happened, that the children stayed together and wouldn't be placed in foster care.

She said she and her husband are living in the home where her parents were killed.
