GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Clay County grand jury on Thursday returned a four-count indictment charging Jarred Harrell with first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual battery and lewd or lascivious battery in connection with the abduction and killing of 7-year-old Somer Thompson.
Somer disappeared while walking home from her Orange Park school on Oct. 19. Her body was found two days later in the southeast Georgia landfill where Orange Park's garbage is dumped.

State Attorney Angela Corey said a multi-agency task force led by Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler worked tirelessly to find Somer?s body and track down the person responsible for her tragic death.

On February 23, Clay County detectives transported Jarred Harrell from Meridian, Miss., to the Clay County jail to face unrelated charged of child pornography and molestation.
Last Friday, Sheriff Rick Beseler gathered the task force that had worked on the case for five months -- ?Team Somer? -- to announce that Harrell had been arrested in the murder of Somer Thompson.
Judge William A. Wilkes accepted the indictment and set no bond for Harrell and the sheriff's office said he is being held in an isolation cell.
Harrell's arraigned on the charges is set for April 8.
Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty against Harrell.
