No Reduced Sentence For Teen Killer
Teen Given Life Sentence For Murdering Man When She Was 15
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A Putnam County judge has decided that a life sentence for a teenage girl convicted of murder should not be reduced.
Morgan Leppert was given a life sentence last fall for killing a man when she was 15. She's now 17 years old.
Her defense lawyers recently filed a motion for a reduced sentence, citing a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The judge rejected the motion, pointing out the ruling dealt with crimes that were not homicides.
Leppert's adult boyfriend, Toby Lowry, is also serving a life sentence for the murder.
He pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty and agreed to testify against Leppert, but prosecutors did not call him to the stand during her trial.
