Jaguars Trim Roster To 53 Players

21 Players Waived Saturday; 1 Placed On Injured Reserve

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars waived 21 players Saturday and placed one on injured reserve to reduce the team's 75-man roster to the NFL-mandated limit of 53.

The Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals also agreed to a trade involving safety Reggie Nelson for cornerback David Jones and an undisclosed draft pick.

Included among the players released were 12 veterans: S Gerald Alexander, LB Alvin Bowen, DT Atiyyah Ellison, G Kynan Forney, LB Tony Gilbert, LB Teddy Lehman, DL Jeremy Navarre, RB Kolby Smith, CB Scott Starks, TE Ernest Wilford, WR Troy Williamson and LB Rod Wilson.

The three first-year players who were also waived were DT Walter Curry, WR Clarence Denmark and WR John Matthews, along with six rookies in OT Daniel Baldridge, TE Mike Caussin, QB Trevor Harris, RB Chad Kackert, DT Ko Quaye and C Bradley Vierling. Rookie LB Kyle Bosworth was placed on injured reserve.

On Sunday, the Jaguars were awarded third-year defensive tackle Landon Cohen on Sunday off waivers from the Detroit Lions. Offensive lineman Paul McQuistan was released to make room on the roster for Cohen.

All 15 of the Jaguars' draft picks from the last two years are on the current roster, and three undrafted rookies made the cut to 53 in LB Jacob Cutrera, OT Kevin Haslam and DE Aaron Morgan.

The Jaguars signed four players to their practice squad Sunday and four more Monday. Six of those signed had been with the team throughout the preseason and were waived in final cuts Saturday. They were Baldridge, Caussin, Matthews, Quaye, Bowen and Vierling. QB Brett Ratliff and CB John Destin were also signed to the practice squad.

Each NFL team is limited to eight players on their practice squad.
