Second Teen Charged In Dice-Game Killing

20-Year-Old Victim Robbed, Shot In Head In July

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a second teenager in the fatal shooting of a man during a July 31 dice game.

Reginald Battle, 19, appeared before a judge on a charge of first-degree murder and was ordered held without bond in connection with the slaying of 20-year-old Michael Burney on July 31 during an attempted robbery in a townhouse on Maidstone Cove Drive.

According to the arrest report, Battle was arrested on an unrelated charge Oct. 1 and denied being at the scene of Burney's robbery and shooting. Based on information obtained during the investigation, the state attorney's office determined there was enough evidence to charge Battle with robbery and murder.

Police said Burney was playing the dice game with other young men when he was shot in the head. He died two days later.

Last month, Zacchaeus Whitley, 19, was charged with murder in the same case.

Police said surveillance video from the town home complex where Burney was killed and text messages Whitley sent to other men about the robbery led to the teen's arrest.
