BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – A 47-year-old North Dakota man was killed in a crash involving a big rig in Baker County on Tuesday afternoon.
Paul Vanness was a passenger in a car that was struck by the tractor-trailer on U.S. 90 at Lowder Street about 2:40 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 34-year-old Amos Smith, of Jacksonville, was driving the big rig westbound on U.S. 90, and the car Vanness was in, driven by 74-year-old Carolyn Vanness, of Macclenny, was heading northbound on Lowder Street.
Troopers said Smith failed to see the car and drove through the intersection, striking the car.
Carolyn Vanness suffered serious injuries and was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.
Smith suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital.
Paul Vanness was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
