Ayesha Faines 'Dancing' Diary

By Ayesha Faines – I have to say, there is no way I would have turned down the opportunity to compete in Jacksonville?s Dancing With The Stars.

I was thrilled to be asked. I grew up in the world of ballet. I love to watch ballroom dancing (it?s so glamorous). Furthermore, I really believe in the charity for which this year?s event will raise money.

The Jacksonville Children?s Chorus gives kids from all over town the opportunity to hone their singing skills, travel, and build self-esteem. I was once one of those ?artsy? kids, and I know first-hand the impact of performing on children.

Having said that, I had no idea the level of commitment this would take. I began training in June. I started taking just two classes a week and now I?m up to practicing multiple hours per day. Oh, and trust me, my previous dance training has only taken me so far.

Some say learning to dance is like learning to ride a bike. I say learning to dance is like learning to ride bike that sits in the rain when you?re not riding it. Sure, your body knows what to do, but it?s RUSTY.

The day is rapidly approaching. My partner Arnold and I will perform a samba and Viennese waltz on the night of September 17th at Times Union Center. Half my score is based on how well I dance, the other half is VOTES. It costs one dollar to cast a vote for me. All the money goes to the Jacksonville Children?s Chorus, a nonprofit that has taken a bit of hit in this recession. A Social Affair Dance Studio on Beach Boulevard is organizing the event.

If you are able, please support me and a group of wonderfully talented children by visiting the Dancing With The Stars website and casting your vote. If you?d like details on purchasing tickets, please email me at Ayesha@wjxt.com.

I?m off to dance class now. I?ll keep you posted on my road to the stage.
