The gator measured 12 feet long.

The teen who caught it was hunting alligators on the St. Lucie Canal, along with his family.

He hit it with what's called a "bang stick" -- that's a long stick with a 44-caliber shell on the end of it. Then they harpooned the gator and pulled it onto their boat.

The alligator is now being stored in the family's freezer.

The boy's father is a taxidermist and Gator hunter.

It wasn't a record Gator though. Florida Fish and Wildlife says the longest caught in Florida was 14 feet and 1,000 pounds.
