Man charged in sniper shootings set for trial

21-year-old sentenced to probation, time served in Westside car shootings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old man charged as an accessory in a series of shootings in which one person and at least five cars were hit on Branan Field Chaffee Road will go to trial in March.

Robert Barr Jr. was charged with accessory after the fact in the September and October Westside sniper shootings.  He has pleaded not guilty.

Police were looking for two other suspects in the series of attacks, one that left a city street sweeper operator with a gunshot wound to the arm.

An arrest report says Barr confessed to knowing about the shootings. It's not clear what role he played or if he held a gun.

Police believe two men shot at cars traveling along Branan Field between Argyle Forest Boulevard and 103rd Street in the early morning hours on several weekends.

Just after 4 a.m. one Saturday, police called to a report of a shooting found several cars were targeted by two men shooting from a wooded area.

Police said drivers who think their car has been hit should not stop but keep going until they get to a safe place where they can call 911.
