The victim was flown to a hospital.

Deputies said they evacuated the remaining people, including several children, from the church due to the nature of the ongoing investigation.

The initial investigation revealed that a group of church members were on church property shooting skeet with shotguns. Deputies said Patrick McCall, 71, walked out of his house across the street from the church and randomly fired a handgun in the direction of the church.

Deputies said McCall then went back inside his home.

Deputies said they found several things that had been struck by the random gunfire. After several hours, the suspect finally walked out of his house and made contact with deputies on the scene, investigators said.

McCall was arrested and charged with attempted homicide. He was being held at the Alachua County Jail.
