Prosecutors said Smith responded to a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy who posed online as a woman in St. Augustine. Smith agreed to meet who he thought was a woman and her 14-year-old niece for sex.

Smith was arrested as part of a sting operation, codenamed "Operation Sheepdog," in St. Augustine on April 30. Detectives said Smith had condoms when he was arrested.

St. John's County prosecutors said Smith was the one of 17 defendants arrested in the sting. The second defendant is set to go to trial on Thursday.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 10. He faces up to 25 years in prison.
