KINGSLAND, Ga. – The Kingsland Police Department were called Tuesday night to investigate a suspicious fire at a local hotel.
The Kingsland Fire Department responded to an emergency call of a room fire at the Economy Inn on Lee Street. When they arrived to the scene they alerted the KPD to what appeared to be a meth lab set up in the hotel room.

When finding the equipment and chemicals, the area was contained and Eagle SWS, a federally authorized hazardous materials cleaning service used by the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted to respond from their nearest facility in Waycross.
The occupants of the room, Steven Joseph Furstenberg and Mary Francine Furstenberg, of Woodbine, were questioned and a search warrant was obtained to execute the search of their hotel room and vehicle, police said.
After completing the search, authorities found numerous items that were consistent with the manufacturing of meth. The items were seized for destruction, photographs documenting the incident were placed into evidence to be used in a future trial.
Mary Fustenberg was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine a felony and transported to the Camden County Jail. Steven Furstenberg was airlifted to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was treated for his burn injuries sustained in the fire. He will also be charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, but charges are pending until he is discharge from the hospital.
