Doctors say if you have a break in the skin, an insect bite or a sting, you're at risk.
Another condition that's very contagious ring worm. It's circular, red, and raised. The borders are usually more elevated and there might be some clearing in the center of the rash.
According to Dr. Christopher Scuderi at UF New Berlin Family Medical Center, we'll see more ring worm in the summer.
"Kids are sweating a lot, they're wearing tank tops, and getting more sun exposure because they're playing outside more," said Scuderi.
Ring worm will itch but doctors say you don't want to scratch it.
"That's when you get infected because you have bacteria on your nails and when you scratch and break the skin that's when you get a really nasty infection," Scuderi said.
A few tips from doctors to control itching are to apply cool temperatures to infected area, use an over the counter steroid cream and avoid hot showers because that can make the itching worse.
