ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Republican Ron DeSantis will face Democrat Heather Beaven in the race for newly minted Congressional District 6, but they took decidedly different routes to the general election.
Beaven won the Democratic primary handily, capturing 80 percent of the vote with all but a handful of districts reporting. But in this solidly Republican district, the uphill battle will come in November.

DeSantis, a political newcomer from Ponte Vedra Beach, by contrast, faced a crowded field that included House member Fred Costello, R-Ormond Beach, St. Johns County School Board Chairwoman Beverly Slough and Jacksonville City Councilman Richard Clark.
DeSantis came out on top, taking 39 percent of the vote from the seven-candidate field. Costello came in second with 22 percent of the vote. Clark, who doesn't even live in the district that stretches from St. Johns into Flagler, Putnam and Volusia counties, finished fifth.
