Police: 4-year-old found safe

T'yanna Elise Davis missing for 24 hours found safe with family friend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 4-year-old missing for 24 hours was found safe Sunday morning in the company of a man described as a family friend, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

"T'yanna Elisa Davis was found in the custody of Freddric Sherrod," JSO said in a statement at 10:45 a.m. "Interviews and investigations need to take place to determine what exactly occurred."

Police did not release details of where they were found or other circumstances of Davis' disappearance. They said there would be a news conference Monday to release details of the case.

Davis was last seen around 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Virginian Arms apartments on Jammes Road. She was reported missing late Saturday night and a statewide missing child alert was issued at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said she was last seen with 30-year-old Sherrod, who they described as a friend of the child's father and who had babysat her several times before.

Police were concerned because they had not returned when expected.

"I really don't know what we're working with right now other than I have a missing child and I have a missing adult," JSO Assistant Chief Chris Butler said in an overnight briefing.

JSO K-9 unit searches for missing girl.

"In the past the individual with T'yanna would watch her for a period of time, but then would return the child back to the father. So this has happened a time before but we're looking at 3:30 a.m. and this child hasn't been returned yet."

Sunday morning, JSO K-9 teams searched in and around the apartment complex and police said patrol officers and other resources helped in the search.

Police also said Sherrod had connections to the Houston, Texas and New Orleans areas and they were in the process of notifying those communities about the case when Davis was found with Sherrod.
