JSO: Man shot in rear at apartment complex

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting Tuesday evening in Northwest Jacksonville.

At 5 p.m. officers were dispatched to Hilltop Village Apartments on West 45th Street in reference to shots being fired.

When officers arrived they found several bullet casings but did not find anyone who was injured. Officers searched the area, collected the evidence and left the scene.

At 6 p.m. one of the officers who responded to the scene was contacted by an off-duty officer at UF Health Jacksonville. The off-duty officer told police that a 20-year-old man came into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his rear.

Before the man went into surgery, he gave the officer his personal information and indicated that he had been shot at Hilltop Apartments.

Violent Crimes Task Force detectives were notified and will be handling the investigation.
